History
The intent of the History Curriculum at Kings Priory School is to inspire in pupils a curiosity and fascination about the past which remains with them throughout the whole of their school life and beyond. We help them explore a vast range of topics, from Ancient Civilisations and Empires to key developments of modern states and nations, as well as learning about the lives of significant people of the past.
It is to provide children with an informed world view whilst also meeting the requirements of the National Curriculum. Underpinning the design of the curriculum are the school's core values of respect, tolerance and friendship.
The coverage of the KS1 curriculum in history allows children to acquire an understanding of their local area and helps them to see history in practice. Within KS2 the intent is to widen the children’s understanding of the world by looking at the ancient world and 'far away' lands in every aspect. KS3 expands on this by allowing pupils to explore key developments and changes from the medieval period up to modern day, beginning to consider how this has shaped and impacted the world we live in. Our KS4 and KS5 curriculum seeks to widen our pupils' understanding of world history and what it truly means to be an historian.

We want KPS pupils to be historians; to have a curiosity and fascination about the past and through doing so, build a deeper understanding of the present.
