Art
Art, craft and design embody some of the highest forms of human creativity. A high-quality art education should engage, inspire and challenge, equipping them with the skills and knowledge to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design. As pupils progress, they should be able to think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of art and design. They should also know how art and design both reflect and shape our history, and contribute to the culture, creativity and wealth of our nation.
The intent of the Art Curriculum at Kings Priory School is to engage and inspire pupils to develop a love of art and design and develop their talent as artists, and so increase their self-confidence, creativity, visual intelligence and sense of achievement. As pupils progress, they should develop a critical engagement with art, allowing them to design, to experiment, to refine and to evaluate their work and that of others to develop a critical vocabulary and aesthetic understanding.
Pupils will draw, paint, print and sculpt, review and evaluate art across a range of historical periods, genres, styles, cultures and traditions, including the works of the great art movements and artists.
We hope pupils will understand and explore how art is created, produced and communicated, including through the interrelated formal elements: colour, tone, texture, pattern, shape, form, line and space.
